Birthday Inspiration Board

So I apologize for the two week hiatus. My brother came down with the flu and despite his attempts to persuade me that "love from his big sis" would cure his illness, I did NOT indulge this love theory. (And yes, he got better on his own.)

So through the family flu, a move, family in town and thanksgiving...Dulcet & Dapper is back in action.

In honor of my 25th birthday (ugh!) here is an adorable tangerine and aqua birthday party inspiration board from Tiny Talk. In all the gloomy rain today, this should brighten a day or two!

Tissue Paper Flower Pom Poms from Martha Stewart, Tablescape, Blue Utensils,

Unique Wedding Exits

Clients are always asking me alternatives for wedding exits. Whether their reception site won't let them use bubbles, sparklers or birdseed, or they're just opting for something a little less traditional, unique exits are in high demand. I've compiled a few of my favorites and most popular ideas--and all inexpensive!

Paper Airplanes.
Remember to bend or dull the tip to save an eye!

Autumn Leaves.
Tis the season for colorful leaves! An extremely budget friendly, beautiful option!

Festive Flags.
Screen print any word, symbol or monogram on muslin and you have a fun way to leave! Find the DIY tutorial here.{Wedding Bee}

Especially adorable for afternoon, spring weddings!

Glow Sticks.
80's flashback? Make sure it's super dark so you can get stellar photographs!

Ribbon Wands.
An easy DIY project that can double as a cute favor for your guests!

If these don't tickle your fancy, why not instruments that fit your theme or passion? In fact, noise was traditionally used to ward off evil spirits!

What have you used for your grand exit? A more traditional approach or something a bit more unique?

Dress Digs

Dulcet & Dapper is happy to introduce Dress Digs! Every Friday, we'll scour the 'net and dig up a gorgeous dress that embodies everything sweet and chic.

First up, a breathtaking Alvina Valenta. One of my favorite designers, the style is so fluid, dreamy and romantic.From the new Spring 2010 collection, this silk duchess satin gown with a sweetheart neckline and a touch of lace exudes an Old Hollywood feel. Simply divine.

Happy weekend everyone! Stay dry!

Wedding Etiquette: Gimmie Cash

{image by: Alex M Photography}

"Great, another blender...a stained glass plate I didn't register for...more holiday pile in my closet!"

Registering for a wedding can be one of the most daunting and stressful parts of the planning process. You may even find that you already have the necessities to fill a happy home. As the average age to wed is steadily increasing, couples have established careers and own homes by the time they tie the knot. So in a world where money is gold and debt is superfluous, its very tempting to ask for cash on you wedding invitation.

Never ask for cash on your wedding invitation. Never put any registry information on your wedding invitation at all. The best way to to get the gift preference out there is word of mouth. If you would prefer cash, let your immediate family know. When Aunt Susie calls up your mother to ask if you would prefer the crystal butter dish or the silver flatware, she can casually state your preference of cash. Generation Y brides are even opting for the wedding website to tell guests their registry information. And a Save-the-Date is a perfectly acceptable place to put this website!

Still don't really need to register for anything? Opt for a honeymoon registry [ or]. That way you can splurge on a lavish, romantic getaway on Uncle Tom.

Designs by Ashley

I had the privilege of working with Ashley Fisher, owner and designer of Designs by Ashley, for a recent wedding and her work is just stunning. She specializes in custom design for paintings, invitations, save the dates, programs, announcements and note cards. She currently shows off her artwork and stationery in a studio downtown and--for you local Richmonders--participates in First Friday's!

Ashley's note cards can be found at the Spirit of Art in Carytown. You can see more samples of her work on her facebook page and certainly check out her new blog! Thanks for sharing, Ashley!
